Description
Showbiz folks have been keeping body and soul together at this old-world hangout for more than 50 years, tripping down to the Bowery for well-stocked bouillabaisse belle-mère, juicy steak au poivre, and live cabaret shows on certain nights. The fare is more refined that you’d expect for a place touting a fab-’50s decor: roasted pumpkin gets stuffed into ravioli; filet mignon gets slathered in a rioja-peppercorn sauce;and fennel-pepper-crusted tuna comes atop truffled mashed potatoes. For the cost-conscious, a $19 three-course prix fix menu (available 5:30–7pm) includesa glass of wine; enjoy it while you sit in one of the festive banquettes surrounded by Pop artwork and hula-girl knickknacks.
