Vendy Awards
Now in its seventh year, the Vendys celebrate the city's ever-growing ranks of mobile eateries. Rather than traipsing across the boroughs during your lunch hour, find more than 20 vendors on Governors Island. In addition to serving their signature grub, some of the street-food all-stars will dole out special bourbon-infused dishes made with hooch from this year's Vendys sponsor, Maker's Mark. Governors Island (streetvendor.org/vendys). Sept 24 12:30--5pm; $95. Use code "TONY" at tonyvendys2011.eventbrite.com to purchase tickets to the sold-out event.

City Harvest presents the Brooklyn Local
Take stock of Kings County's artisanal-food boom at this pop-up flea market, with 75 of the borough's most celebrated food vendors. Locavores can grab goodies like the Meat Hook's artisanal sausages and Four & Twenty Blackbirds' signature pies. Meanwhile, Frank Castronovo and Frank Falcinelli (Frankies Spuntino, Prime Meats) will preside over a tasting tent, showcasing grub from eateries such as Mile End, No. 7 and Best Pizza. Proceeds benefit City Harvest, an organization that redistributes excess food from restaurants and grocers to communities in need. The Tobacco Warehouse, 26 New Dock St at Water St, Dumbo, Brooklyn (cityharvest.org). Sept 17 11am--4pm. Market: $5. Tasting, including entry to market: through Mon 5 $60, beginning Tue 6 $75.
