Hudson Yards Café

Hudson Yards Cafe
Midtown West
You know those warm fuzzies you get when you walk into a seemingly ancient but supercozy tavern? That ain’t Hudson Yards. Instead of warm fuzzies, you get a somewhat sterile, brightly lit, spaciously arranged room decorated with a jukebox, framed concert posters, ceiling fan—and surprisingly good pub fare. A giant Cobb salad arrived at the table with wonderfully fresh ingredients (lettuce, avocado, onions, tomatoes and cheese), surperbly cooked bacon and still-warm slices of chicken. The shrimp entrée came with a healthy portion of charred crustaceans and vegetables. And the folks in the kitchen wisely left the sirloin steak alone: No pats of butter, no special sauces. Just slightly peppery, tender steak. Even better, the prices range from acceptable ($20 for the steak) to pretty darn good ($7 burgers and $5 beers). Given its proximity to the Javits Center, the crowd will likely remain an unpredictable mix of conventioneers and locals—some tuning into the game on the TV above the bar. On this stretch of Tenth Avenue, it’s just what the doctor ordered.
