Bette Midler’s New York Restoration Project, dedicated to the greening and beautification of the city, won the contract to run this restaurant, just inside Fort Tryon Park (and near the Cloisters museum); all profits from the operation go directly to maintaining the park. Whether you enjoy smoked trout and pear salad on the garden patio, or a Bloody Mary with brunch in the dining room of the 1930s stone building, you’ll be surrounded by the park’s natural beauty, and you’ll be helping to conserve it. The views are more dazzling than the mildly adventurous American food, but this is one case where everybody wins.
