Recap: The 2014 Big Cheesy grilled cheese competition

More than 1600 Time Out readers turned out this weekend to celebrate National Grilled Cheese Day at The Big Cheesy, NYC's annual tasting celebration and culinary challenge hosted at Openhouse Gallery (201 Mulberry Street) crowning the city's top grilled cheese. 

If you were lucky enough to snag the quick-selling tickets to the 4th annual Big Cheesy grilled cheese championship, you did not go home hungry! 

This year's stand-out competitors include 5oz. Factory, La Maison du Croque Monsieur, MeltKraft, Murray's Melts (Murray's Cheese), Van Horn and Alex Mitow's All-American Diner

As with any grilled-cheese competition, only one can reign supreme on the mountain of melted cheese. And the crowning victor of this years is…5 oz Factory.

Thanks for coming out and making this Big Cheesy host by Openhouse Gallery one of the best yet. We are very proud to announce that a portion of the proceeds will benefit Food Bank For NYC and thanks to Uber for offering free and discounted rides to those who were a little too full. We can't wait for next year!
