George Mendes offers a playful take on tradition at his Portuguese eatery. Back Forty
Chef Peter Hoffman stresses high-quality seasonal ingredients in his three-course repast at Back Forty. Billyburgers looking to stay close to home can find a hearty prix fixe at this rustic joint. Start with options such as butternut squash bisque or peekytoe crab cakes (a less traditional but historically accurate Thanksgiving dish). Fatty 'Cue
Zak Pelaccio's Malaysian-inflected barbecue joint takes Thanksgiving gluttony to new heights with this meatcentric eight-course spread. Dig into dishes such as smoked turkey, fermented sausage stuffing and bacon-laced brussels sprouts drizzled with chili and maple syrup. If the tryptophan doesn't put you down for the count, stick around for seasonal cocktails—including the Stone Fashioned (bourbon, dried stone fruit, autumnal bitters)—served until midnight. The rustic, taxidermy-heavy decor at this LES hot spot makes a fitting backdrop for a harvest meal. Loosen your belt for roasted turkey with sourdough stuffing, wild striped bass with roasted root veggies, and butternut squash soup with herbed crme frache, along with snacky favorites such as artichoke dip and devils on horseback (pitted prunes stuffed with Stilton and wrapped with fatty bacon). If you don't want to write any checks your stomach can't cash, skip the prix fixes in favor of la carte staples at both locations of Landmarc. Fill up on pan-seared turkey breast with turkey hash and cranberry relish ($28), plus appetizers such as parsnip-pear soup ($8). Locanda Verde
You could make a pie at home, but why bother when you can enjoy pastry chef Karen DeMasco's exemplary versions—including maple-pumpkin and traditional apple—following an Italian-style prix fixe at Locanda Verde? The meal begins with pumpkin agnolotti, wild mushroom zuppa or autumnal salad with bitter greens, Bartlett pear, hazelnuts and smoked speck. Molyvos
Head to this Greek taverna for a Mediterranean twist on the Thanksgiving meal. The star of the menu is roasted turkey la grecque, featuring organic poultry from Pennsylvania's Four Story Hill Farm and a stuffing made with rice, sausage and chestnuts. Vegetarians like to stuff themselves silly too. Locavore pioneer Bill Telepan builds his spread around the Cadillac of Thanksgiving turkeys, sourced from Snowdance Farms in the Catskills.
