Confirm your date isn’t prone to motion sickness before boarding this floating chamber-music concert hall—you may be buffeted by waves from passing ferries during high tide. The venue’s central programming includes the classically inclined Masterworks and the contemporary-leaning Here and Now. We recommend sitting on the left side of the space or grabbing the two chairs in front of the fireplace. The stage has a glittering view of lower Manhattan as its backdrop, but you can also admire an expanded, panoramic vista—stretching from the Empire State Building to the Statue of Liberty—from the barge’s roof during intermission.

Some city parks—Central and Prospect, most obviously—were built to replicate rustic fields and preserve serene woodland. Brooklyn Bridge Park, however, was not—and that’s precisely why it has become so popular since its 2010 debut. The project has transformed a chunk of the Brooklyn waterfront into a nearly 85-acre expanse; several sections house unique attractions such as Jane’s Carousel, a restored 1920s merry-go-round, and riverside esplanades with gorgeous Manhattan views. Its latest addition, Pier 5, designed specifically for “active recreation”—sporting leagues and events—further cements the space as the city’s premier urban playground.

Dinner and a movie takes on new dimensions at this restaurant-cinema mash-up. You’ll find the movie house in the back of reBar, a gastropub serving small plates and an extensive selection of craft beer and microbrews. The theater screens indie flicks and film-festival fare, which you can watch while sitting on repurposed car seats. Grab a brew and a bag of duck-fat popcorn before settling in for a showing. To ensure that you get a spot, book ahead of time on reRun’s website.
