Emily, 29, animal rescue worker, Lower East Side

How she got her pet: "I met Cody in a shelter in Miami in September 2007, where I had been volunteering. After moving back to New York, I couldn't stop thinking about him, so I flew down to Miami, adopted him and drove 24 hours straight back to New York. Beau I took out of Animal Care and Control in June 2010."

How long she's been an animal lover: "From the second my sister brought home her adopted dog Morris 11 years ago. I started a nonprofit group, Project Pet, in 2008 to be able to save more lives and raise money to help other rescues do the same."

How she's like her pet: "We all hate going for walks in the rain."

What she's looking for in a date: "I'm looking for someone with a big heart who is interesting, caring and motivated. Being a pit bull lover is sort of mandatory."

What makes her a good catch: "I'm passionate, challenging, loving, blunt and determined."

Rene-Michele, 27; waitress, actress; Bushwick, Brooklyn

How she got her pet: "At Animal Haven, Maebee-Audrey, nicknamed Bee, licked my nose, then jumped into my lap, buried her head in my armpit and fell asleep. It was love at first lick.

How long she's been an animal lover: "My whole life, but most recently I decided needed an animal and knew then I was destined to adopt and give a pup a forever home."

How she's like her pet: "We love to eat great food, be lazy and snuggle at home or under a tree in the park, and take a good walk. And neither one of us can resist a good head scratch."

What she's looking for in a date: "Nothing serious, but I'd love to meet someone else with a dog so we can have a play date with our pups at the McCarren Dog Run, then tucker 'em out on the way to Lucky Dog."

What makes her a good catch: "I've learned from Bee to always dance and wag my body when I'm happy, to romp and play every day, to take time to smell the roses and to be forever loyal to those we love."

Natalie, 28; librarian; East Williamsburg, Brooklyn

How she got her pet: "Calypso was born on my parents' farm in Wisconsin and I brought her back because of her disabled paw. I knew she wouldn't be able to defend herself as well as the other barn cats, so I didn't feel too bad making her a city cat."

How long she's been an animal lover: "My whole life. I grew up with chickens, horses, donkeys, goats, emus, llamas and many other pets."

How she's like her pet: "Well, she is a bit clumsy, like me, and likes to cuddle. We are also both very adventurous and will try anything once."

What she's looking for in a date: "Someone who is not completely self-involved and appreciates what NYC has to offer, like exploring the far reaches of the city."

What makes her a good catch: "I can develop a metadata scheme for your record collection, catalog your bookshelf or drink you under the table, then dance until 4am."

    x476datethisanimalrescueradamaleksander

Adam, 27, marketing and event coordinator, Lower East Side

How he's like his pet: "I guess we're both gregarious and easy to love."

  • Jolie Ruben

    x476datethisanimalrescuerhowardwu

Howard, 39; animal rescue worker; Sunnyside, Queens

How he got his pet: "The police brought Garfield, the corn snake, to the animal shelter over a year ago. Since they did not accept snakes, I took it home. I adopted the dog, Mathilda, from an animal shelter six years ago after a passerby found her tied up in McCarren Park. I'm also fostering a dog named Aponte, and looking for a home for him. He's likely an Akita mixed with pit bull, Rottie and who knows what else---he loves people and gets along very well with other doggies (facebook.com/AdoptAponte)."

How long he's been an animal lover: "Twenty years."

How he's like his pets: "My snake and I are similar in that we are both easygoing and have simple needs, and as long as these are provided, we're pretty happy. My dog and I are similar in that nothing really phases us and we don't enjoy change too much yet we can roll with pretty much anything."

What he's looking for in a date: "I'm looking for maturity and a deep thinker, and someone who is complex but not complicated."

What makes him a good catch: "I'm intelligent, easygoing and insightful, and have a great sense of humor. But the best thing about me is that I am passionate about what I do, and that's helping animals."

Want to date Howard? E-mail howard@tonypersonals.com.

How long he's been an animal lover: "Since receiving my first pet at nine years old: a hamster."

How he's like his pet: "We're both well-seasoned animals!"

What he's looking for in a date: "I need a girl who isn't ashamed of bagging some of her dinner, even if she can finish it all, just so she can take it home and give it to the dogs."

What makes him a good catch: "I'm normal."
