Amoskeag XX

Lower East Side

This rustic subterranean boutique’s decor, merchandise and name draw inspiration from a well-known 18th-century New Hampshire textile mill, recalling the days when utility and durability were synonymous with a certain brand of rugged American style. You’ll find the types of clothes you could wear to chop down a tree and then seamlessly blend in at a loft party. Seven jeans styles (manufactured locally using Japanese denim) are stocked year-round, along with seasonal items like plaid wool scarves and vintage cowboy boots. Co-owners Kenji Kawasaki and Hideya Sagawa are all about natural materials—they once dyed T-shirts using water from a leak in their studio.
