Breakout designer: Ann Yee

Who she is: The Michigan transplant interned with Jill Stuart while studying fashion design at Philadelphia University. Yee then honed her knitwear skills by designing for contemporary labels like Barneys, LaRok, Elizabeth and James, and Alice + Olivia. In fall 2009 she launched her eponymous line (annyeecollection.com), which is sold at Eva New York, Albertine, KrisTEES and TG-170.
Why we like her: Yee is a master at artfully executing juxtapositions: Architectural cuts lend structure to fluttery silks with movement, while menswear-inspired pants are paired with feminine pastel tops, blurring gender lines.
About the collection: Yee’s knitwear background shines with lightweight short-sleeved sweaters, draped vests and ingenious scarf necklaces in muted, versatile gray. The soft draping is echoed with silky pastel dresses, crop tops, and tanks that are feminine, easy to layer and effortlessly wearable.—Cristina Velocci
