Eleanor Friedberger, 33, musician in the Fiery Furnaces (thefieryfurnaces.com); Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Her style: "Pragmatism in pursuit of principle."

Her inspirations: "I'm mostly inspired by '70s interior design, particularly Terence Conran's The House Book from 1974 and House Beautiful magazines from the '70s."

Favorite local stores: "Maryam Nassir Zadeh: it looks more like an art gallery than a clothing store. In God We Trust in Greenpoint: beautiful new location and [owner] Shana Tabor makes great jewelry. And Narnia on Rivington; I try not to go there too much since it's pricey, but I always find a treasure."

Favorite local designer: "Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai of Vena Cava. I'm so impressed by their work ethic and the way they are able to express their personalities through their clothes: feminine yet edgy, beautiful prints, simply cool with no pretension."

Go-to bargain spot: "A.P.C surplus store in Williamsburg; everything is half off, but I really go for the full-price jeans."

Most-hated trend: "Girls wearing men's tank tops with an exposed bra."

The greatest dresser of all time: "Mahatma Gandhi, because he used clothes as a symbolic weapon against social injustice."
