Himanshu Suri, 24, rapper, writer, band manager, promoter and "bad DJ" (dasracist.net, gordongartrelle.blogspot.com); Williamsburg, Brooklyn

His style: "Taliban street chic."

His inspirations: "I like wearing high-end stuff when I can afford it, and own some of these pieces from when I had more money in my previous, more corporate job. I also like street wear; it's difficult to ignore Jordans and fitted hats growing up in Queens. Finally, my personal interest in South Asia and the South Asian diaspora, as well as the Middle East, which comes out in different ways. This does not include those kaffiyehs everyone wears. Dead that y'all."

Favorite local stores: "Beacon's Closet for vintage, Mishka NYC and Barneys, although two of these places' employees look at me funny while I walk around. Mishka is not one of them."

Favorite local designers: "Lizzie Owens (lizzieowens.com). She has a men's line coming out and I've been fortunate enough to see her stuff. I love it. Lizzie's responsible for the looks in all of MGMT's music videos, a band that Frida Giannini cited as a huge influence on one of Gucci's recent lines. Another local designer is Maya Lake, with whom I went to Wesleyan. She's insanely talented and her line, Boxing Kitten (boxingkitten.com), has been worn by celebrities like Solange Knowles, Fergie and Erykah Badu. I wish she made men's clothing."

Go-to bargain place: "My mom's closet."

Most hated trend: "American Apparel makes me cringe."

The greatest dressers of all time: "A guy like Beau Brummell is responsible for so much of how men dress, though I wouldn't wear what he wore in the 1800s. Some of the more surrealist stuff Elsa Schiaparelli did was brilliant, though I don't wear woman's clothing and can't identify. The greatest dresser of all time, as far as influencing what I wear, may be a combination of the Duke of Windsor, '80s Harlem legend Dapper Dan, and any Indian guy hanging out smoking a bidi across the ocean in what could be described as 'not-Western' clothing, e.g., my grandfather back in the day."
