Time Out says
In 2010, Paul Van Zyl (a lawyer and human-rights pioneer), Kristy Caylor (a fashion consultant for labels such as Band of Outsiders) and Daniel Lubetzky (founder of Kind Healthy Snacks and PeaceWorks Inc.) started this luxury womenswear brand in partnership with Nest (buildanest.org), a nonprofit that helps artisans around the world design and export their goods. This is Maiyet’s first stand-alone store, offering women’s apparel ($305–$1,550), sophisticated accessories ($385–$1,850), and semiprecious and fine jewelry ($550–$8,500) designed in Colombia, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Italy and Peru, and made in NYC. The minimalist 2,500-square-foot space features mirror-paneled walls, blond-oak floors, architectural steel fixtures and ceiling-hung LED lights. Highlights from the unique collection include leather moto jackets ($1,129), whimsical silk dresses ($315–$1,550) and double-layer miniskirts ($795–$895). Complete your look with bird-closure calfskin clutches ($1,850) and hand-cast cuff bracelets ($550–$2,220).
