Eva Mendes for New York & Company
Actor Eva Mendes wanted to bring a little bit of her glam red-carpet style to New York & Co., a brand typically associated with work-wear basics. The chain signed a multiyear collaboration agreement with the star, who will design four collections a year. The first consists of 70 pieces and will hit stores Thursday 19, with the most expensive item—an oversize cocoon coat—topping out at $160. “I’m absolutely mad about this coat, it’s made from a mohair wanna-be,” she says of her favorite jacket’s material. Mendes chose to incorporate fancier fabrics than those normally used at the national retailer. “My collection is about having quality clothes without the huge price tag,” she says. “It isn’t exclusive, it’s accessible.” Expect textured-jacquard peplum jackets ($90), sheer lace-back cardigans ($60) and tie-front silk floral-print blouses ($43). Standout accessories include studded belts ($27), beaded Victorianesque collar necklaces ($50) and pearl filigree dangling bracelets ($27).
