Stocking U.S.-made men’s clothing, bags and wallets, as well as amazing vintage finds, the cozy, unpretentious Palmer Trading Company is the real deal when it comes to hawking authentic Americana. With its reclaimed-wood-paneled walls and displays, tin ceiling and original mosaic-tile floor, the store truly feels like it’s from a bygone era. Owners Willy Chavarria and David Ramirez first caught the flea-market bug while decorating their weekend home in Palmer, Massachusetts (hence the store’s name) and their rustic aesthetic is impeccable. Among the new goods, you’ll find Top-Siders from Maine shoe company Eastland ($290), The Good Flock iPod, smartphone and laptop cases handcrafted from Pendleton fabrics ($35–$115) and pieces from the in-house line of leather goods called PTC, including a passport holder inspired by an old train-ticket case ($130). Palmer’s vintage runs the gamut from totally affordable items like twill plaid work shirts ($85) to antiques only serious collectors will shell out for, such as the 1930s leather cigar club chairs with mustache-style backs ($3,500).
