Who she is: A 28-year-old Williamsburg designer who first delved into fashion by upcyling vintage materials during her college years at New York University (she graduated in 2004). She also interned for Betsey Johnson, and for edgy German label A.D.Deertz while living in Berlin.
About her line: After years of making one-off pieces, Simon-Alexander officially launched her tie-dye-centric collection last June. Her obsession with the psychedelic print—often inspired by images of outer space—began when she first used it on a lining in an otherwise masculine garment; now it dominates all of her leggings, bodysuits, bikini tops, hoodies, scarves and totes. Says Simon-Alexander, “It turns out people were just more interested in the tie-dye.”
