Derek Lam for DesigNation
For the second installment of Kohl’s DesigNation program, in which a high-end designer is commissioned to create an affordable women’s clothing collection inspired by an exotic locale, the mass-market chain has tapped American sportswear talent Derek Lam. Drawing from the lush landscape he experienced on a recent trip to Rio de Janeiro, Lam created more than 85 pieces of sleek, modern swimwear and clothing ($36–$88) in a nature-influenced palette of indigo, forest green and camel. Highlights include a woodgrain-print collared shirtdress ($70), jewel-toned floral skinny pants ($54) and a boatneck abstract-stripe frock ($70). Kohl’s, locations throughout the city; visit kohls.com. Available April 5.
Marimekko and Aesop
Your bathroom counter is about to get a whole lot chicer, thanks to the groovy packaging Marimekko created for plant-based Australian beauty brand Aesop. Inspired by Scandinavian bathing rituals, the Helsinki clothing-and-textile company made a wavelike pattern to adorn the pair of recyclable plastic jars and cotton bag in the Sauna Duet ($80), a limited-edition kit containing a detoxifying body scrub and balm. The smell of sage leaf, fir and pine-needle essential oils should transport you to a Finnish conifer forest. Aesop, locations throughout the city; visit aesop.com • Marimekko, 200 Fifth Ave between 23rd and 24th Sts (212-843-9121, us.marimekko.com). Available the first week of April.
Kate Young for Target
The celebrity stylist got her start assisting Vogue editrix Anna Wintour, and has since dressed A-listers such as Natalie Portman and styled runway shows for Yigal Azrouel. She brings her fresh, modern perspective to this feminine collection of apparel ($30–$90), jewelry ($15–$30), handbags ($20–$30) and shoes ($40–$45). Although there’s an emphasis on special-occasion dresses, including adorable cap-sleeve frocks with satin belts ($50) and a killer tuxedo-inspired jumpsuit ($80), the accessories truly stand out. Look for Art Deco chunky enamel cuffs ($30), illusion cut-out suede pumps ($40) and leopard-print peep-toe booties ($45). Target, locations throughout the city; visit target.com. Available April 14.
