Kenturah Davis, 30, gallery director, Los Angeles
Davis's job is reflected in her ensemble. Her striped jumpsuit was a find at a vintage shop in L.A. "The places that I shop at in L.A. are vintage or sort of hipster," she says. "I don't think that things available there aren't available here."

Davis thinks the pickings are similar in L.A. and New York. She tracked down her circular Oliver Peoples frames at a shop called Society of the Spectacle (societyspectacle.com) on the West Coast, but in Manhattan you can score them at the Oliver Peoples boutique (366 West Broadway at Broome St; 212-925-5400, oliverpeoples.com). Seems her New York theory is right.

Ian O'Donnell, 35, designer for Tommy Hilfiger, Hell's Kitchen
When we approached O'Donnell, he appeared to have just stepped off a yacht---which was just the look he was going for. "I am all about comfort and casual and I like embracing the warm weather," he says. "Getting as much skin exposed as possible is always nice, when it is sunny." To stave off glare, he dons a pair of Penguin (penguinclothing.com) sunglasses.

His Tommy Hilfiger khaki pants (usa.tommy.com) are printed with navy-blue anchors on the front of one pant leg and the back of the opposite. "These were actually printed this way," O'Donnell says. "The whole idea is to make it look not so serious. Like it was maybe done by accident, or maybe I sat here by myself in class stamping it." His artsy pants are held up by a Kiel James Patrick belt (kieljamespatrick.com).

Underneath a Tommy Hilfiger button-down, he sports a playful painted tee. "Anders Olson, who is a really awesome artist, did this T-shirt," he says. "There is a faux pocket just painted onto my shirt."

One of O'Donnell's bracelets was a souvenir from a trip to Cab San Lucas, Mexico, while the other two have a more impressive place of origin. "In China, I climbed up to the top of this very tall mountain in the West Lake district of Hangzhou," he explains. "At the top was the Lingyin temple. It is a temple dedicated to wealth and they had a gift shop, oddly enough. I felt like after this epically long hike I should buy something."

Raquel Ramos Solla, 24; sales associate and stylist at a women's boutique; San Juan, Puerto Rico
Ramos Solla's vibrant sundress is a perfect combination of Puerto Rican colorful and Manhattan casual. "Obviously you can play more with the fashion here," she says. "You can wear more layers. It is more mellow." Her plum and salmon geometric print dress was a steal at Forever 21 (forever21.com).

She layers silver necklaces atop her frock. The most prominent piece, a long chain with an elephant charm, came from Old San Juan. The other thin-chained silver necklaces she snagged in New York, mostly from Chinatown shops.

Jeannette Mueller, 70; independent fashion consultant; Philadelphia
Mueller's animal print caught our eye from across the rooftop. On top of her leopard blazer from Zara (zara.com), she layers a black blouse of her own design. Interestingly, her dark legginglike pants were the most expensive part of her ensemble. She splurged on them at a shop outside of Philadelphia.

"I think they are some kind of designer glasses," Mueller says of her shades. "I really can't see very well out of them, and I sat on them and now it is a problem on my nose." When we clued her in to the Dior logo (dior.com), she remained cavalier. "Are they now?"

Her necklace was a present from an old boyfriend. "I have had these pearls for over 50 years," she says. "I just took them out of storage about two years ago." When asked if she and that beau remain in touch, the answer was a pointed no. "For all I know he is dead." The man has since departed, but the jewels remain.

When we began talking about her rings, Mueller's attention became focused. "Well now, these are a serious matter," she says. One is from another old boyfriend (whom she sees occasionally, but is of little concern to her). The silver and gold ones she bought herself.

Jaime Garcia del Barrio, 36; executive assistant to the president at a university; Pamplona, Spain
When we came across Garcia del Barrio, he was dressed for business, not pleasure. "I am here working with a friend of mine. We are starting up an art museum at our university [in Navarre, Spain]," he explains. "We have been working for two days and today we had a break, so we came to visit the Metropolitan Museum." He is required to wear a suit to work every day, hence he owns several. Today he wears a custom-made crisp gray one. "It is a tailored suit that they did for me in Madrid," he says.

His burgundy striped shirt is also a custom piece from Madrid. The left breast pocket is marked with his initials. "I designed this tie myself for the dorm in the University of Navarra," Garcia del Barrio says. The emblem on the bottom of the tie---a mountain, three stars and a river beneath---represents the natural wonders near the school. "Mandar is a mountain that is in Navarra, and in Basque language it means 'mountain with water.'"

We noticed that one of the four buttons fastening the wrist of his suit coat was left unbuttoned. That's not an oversight. "When you dress in Spain, and you have a suit tailored, then you don't use the last button," Garcia del Barrio says.

While Garcia del Barrio turns to the Spanish for his suits, it seems that he trusts Americans for his shoes. His "comfortable" black oxfords are Allen Edmonds (allenedmonds.com). "I bought them here in the U.S., two years ago."

Davina Reichman, 26, founder and managing director of Being Born Again Couture, East Village
As a producer of fashion shows, Australian-born Reichman knows a thing or two about clothes. "Fashion is more trendy in New York than in Australia," she says. "[Australian designers] copy a lot of New York fashion." Her black, sequined sweater came from Pepe Jeans (pepejeans.com). The cropped sweater, left untied at the waist, shows off her Kookai bodysuit (kookai.com), which is tucked into vintage checked shorts.

    Brita Stone; retiree; Majorca, Spain
Stone splits her time between Spain and Manhattan, and tries to set an example for less fashionable ladies. "I think the world is very generic now," she says. "I think you find elegant women everywhere, but most of the world dresses pretty badly." She tops her Zara slacks (zara.com) with a Jil Sander blouse and blazer (jilsander.com), and adds flair to her outfit with a scarf that was a gift from a friend in Majorca.

When it comes to shades, Stone goes with quantity over quality. "I pick up loads of cheap glasses because I lose them. The moment I buy a $200 or 200-euro pair of glasses, in a week they are gone," she says. "So I buy the $10, or $15 maximum, pairs, and I have 15 to 20 pairs all the time." She scooped up her earrings in Majorca, too.

Her gold Swatch (swatch.com) can stand up to all of the elements, making it perfect for someone who lives near the ocean. "It goes in the shower and it goes in the sea. Anywhere," she says. "Of course, I take it off when I get dressed up in the evening, but otherwise I never take it off."

Stone couldn't resist buying this gold link bracelet when strolling through a shopping district in Italy. "My bracelet, I actually bought myself, many, many years ago in Florence at the bridge, Ponte Vecchio, where all the jewelry stores are," she says. "I saw it in the window and I fell in love with it," she says. Her pinkie ring came from two very different locales. "The stone I bought myself in Sri Lanka, and I had it made up in a setting in Venice." Her other digits are adorned with a Bulgari ring (bulgari.com), a sapphire-and-diamond piece and her Cartier wedding band (cartier.com), which she still wears even though the husband is long gone.

Shawn Lynn, 31, oral surgeon, Financial District
When Lynn's not in his oral-surgery scrubs, the look he strives for is "preppy with a little edge." It was no surprise he listed his favorite brands as Rugby (99 University Pl at 12th St; 212-677-1895, rugby.com), where his plaid button-down was purchased, and Polo (ralphlauren.com), the designer of his cuffed jeans.

Treasa MacManus, 77; retired special-education teacher; Dublin
This Irish retiree is quite the world traveler---and her clothing reflects that. Take, for example, her long jean skirt. "I bought the skirt just about six weeks ago in Munich, Germany," she says. "My daughter lives in Germany." Her patterned smock top was also purchased abroad. "I bought it in a craft shop in Penang in Malaysia about two years ago," she says. "We were on our way to Australia. My husband is an ophthalmologist and we were on our way to Perth for a conference."
