The neighborhood: "I was living in midtown in a doorman building, but it was very businessy and touristy," says Courtney. "It was close to the park, you couldn't run out for groceries without someone asking if you wanted a carriage ride. I really wanted to be further downtown. We looked in Gramercy and found this building. I like Gramercy, it really feels like a community. Our street is quiet and there are schools and families, but it's also walking distance from East Village nightlife and Union Square transport. My boyfriend has a car and he would say the lack of street parking is annoying, but I love the area. We moved in a month ago and I really haven't left the neighborhood."

The apartment: "The apartment really stood out for me because I've never seen one like this," says Courtney. "The building is made up of triplexes, so each apartment has three distinct levels. You walk in and there's a bathroom and kitchen, you walk a few steps further and there's a set of stairs; one leads up to the bedroom and one leads down is the living room. So one person can be in the living room and the other person can have privacy in the bedroom. Off the living room there's even a little balcony."

The broker: "We used a broker who was recommended to me through a friend, and she was really great," says Courtney. "She ran all over the city with us for two days straight and didn't complain once. You can tell she loves what she does. It was a really great experience, especially for someone like my boyfriend, who moved from Connecticut and doesn't know the city very well and doesn't know what you can get for your money. It's nice to have someone who knows what they're doing."
