Today's drinking events: Poems and Pints and a Bavarian Xmas
Tue Dec 1 2009
Poems and Pints
You may have waxed poetic about a craft brew in the past, but why not just enjoy your beer and leave the poetry to the pros? Ron Padgett (Oklahoma Tough) and The Nation columnist Katha Pollitt close out the season at this popular and unpretentious monthly reading (look out for a fresh lineup in the spring). Get in the mood with $4 pints of Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale and enjoy the old-timey ambience of Fraunces Tavern. FREE Fraunces Tavern, 54 Pearl St at Broad St, second floor (frauncestavern.com). 6:30--7:30pm.
A Bavarian Xmas
Oktoberfest and Christmas combine at this beer-soaked holiday party. Get in the spirit with steins of Spaten (half liter $6; liter $10), house-made bratwurst ($5) and free Jameson from 7:30 to 8:30pm. No brewfest is complete without kooky entertainment: Grammy-nominated polka player Alex Meixner and the ladies of Wasabassco Burlesque should do the trick. The Bell House, 149 7th St between Second and Third Aves, Gowanus, Brooklyn (718-643-6510, thebellhouseny.com). 7:30pm, $10.
