Free and outdoors: In Gardens with William Parker
Wed Sep 15 2010
Announced too late for this week's TONY but still very much worth your while: the kickoff event of the free, outdoor In Gardens concert series, brought to you by the avant-jazz boosters behind the Vision Festival. This coming Sunday (September 19) at First Street Garden (50 E 1st St between First and Second Aves), catch venerable bassist William Parker, pictured, premiering Segments of Light, a new work featuring himself and 14 other four-stringers. Parker & Co. play at 1:30pm, followed by Rob Brown, Gerald Cleaver and friends at 3pm, and the Josh Roseman Quartet at 4:15pm. Keep your eye on TONY for info on future In Gardens events, which continue in the city's public spaces through October.
