Jay-Z to play 9/11 benefit show at MSG
Tue Aug 25 2009
To say that '09 has been a huge year for Jay-Z would be a major understatement. Less than a month ago, he saved the day at All Points West, stepping in to headline night one after the Beastie Boys were forced to drop off the bill. (And instead of seizing the spotlight, Mr. Carter charmed the music world by opening his set with a cover of the Beasties' "No Sleep Till Brooklyn.") Now comes an even more awesome bit of Z news: On September 11, the MC will play a benefit show at Madison Square Garden, with all proceeds going directly to The New York Police & Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund. The concert, to be broadcast live on Fuse, also marks the release of Jigga's latest full-length, The Blueprint 3. Ticket info is still TBA, but we can tell you that Citi Card holders get first dibs. We'll let you know more as soon as we hear it. In the meantime, revisit Jay-Z's NYC-related chat with TONY EIC Michael Freidson.
