Live at TONY: Screaming Females

During the sound check for Screaming Females' recent Live at TONY appearance, we said to vocalist-guitarist Marissa Paternoster, "Maybe sing a little bit louder, but don't go outside your comfort zone." As if on cue, she deadpanned, "I'm always outside my comfort zone." The response seemed perfectly appropriate to Paternoster's status as a burgeoning art-punk antistar. As you can see and hear in the above version of "Deluxe"—from the Females' ferocious new album, Castle Talk, due out in September—the band oozes nonchalant cool even at its most low-key.
