Fall preview '08: Theater
Tue Aug 26 2008
That Brian d'Arcy James, trying not to channel Mike Myers, will do his damnedest to get beyond the Gumby jokes.
That he'll be upstaged by an ass (the formidable Chester Gregory II—previously seen as a gorilla in Tarzan—plays Donkey).
That John Lithgow will take a break from All My Sons over on West 45th and put in a cameo as Lord Farquaad.
That Sutton Foster (Princess Fiona) will have funnier material than she did in the ultrasucky Young Frankenstein.
That Jeanine Tesori's score will incorporate the Monkees' "I'm a Believer," like the movie did.
Shrek starts previews Nov 8 at the Broadway Theatre.
