Money Grubbin’ Whores: Theater review by Raven Snook

What can I tell you about a show called Money Grubbin’ Whores that you can’t already guess from its lame title? Lovelorn Irishman Matt (Adam Mucci) and his estranged Israeli wife, Aviva (Carmit Levité), try to hash out a divorce settlement in the basement of a New Jersey pizzeria with help from self-professed dealmakers Frankie (James Andrew O’Connor) and Moshe (Penny Bittone). Cue an hour of extraneous profanity (cunt is a particular favorite) and politically incorrect ethnic jokes followed by a jarring tone shift when the spouses discuss their problems in earnest with nary a punch line.

Sean J. Quinn’s purported black comedy has edgy aspirations, but the most outrageous thing about it is that audiences are expected to pay—$51.25, to be exact—to suffer through such garbage. Who’s the money grubbin’ whore now?—Theater review by Raven Snook
