Video of the Day: Love Song

Love Song is a quirky rom-com written and directed by John Kolvenbach, and it kicks of 59E59's admirable Americas Off Broadway festival. We don't know Kolvenbach's work (but look for a TONY review in mid-April), but the production has just released a surprisingly neat trailer for the show. Take heed, Off and Off-Off producers: visuals matter!

  • Are you refering to a showcase performances or fully produced performances? I think that the t railer is taken right from the play. I saw a production of the play at the Stepenwolf in Chica go and then again in London in the East End. It is an excellent play. This is a must see play .

  • oh, and, nice trailer, but it doesn't exactly tell me what the play is about, does it?

  • Yes, Visuals matter, but the Actors union Actors' Equity Association (AEA) makes it impossible to do good trailers for off-off Broadway. The rules prohibit using any a) setting b) costume o r c) actual dialogue that will be seen on stage. And then there's the cost of producing a trailer, which most off-off companies simply don't hav e. It's hard enough to raise the few measly dollars needed to produce the show!
