So this is interesting: Earlier today, photographer Noah Kalina tweeted a photo of what appears to be a cat café called Purrfect Strangers on Grand Street near Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg. Needless to say, we are incredibly excited about this—cat cafés are huge in Japan, and just last week, our pals at Time Out London revealed the location of that city's first kitty café, which will open thanks to a massive crowd-funding campaign.
Of course, this could all be bunk—as a commenter on Free Williamsburg pointed out, the city's health code for restaurants states that any live animals "are to be excluded from food service operations." So who knows if this will actually be a real cat café (though the sign would seem to indicate yes)? We're attempting to get to the bottom of this mystery, and will update you with any new information.
In the meantime, fellow cat folks, we'd say you should tentatively get excited about this.
