Caramel-walnut apple pie with vanilla crust
Chef: Heather Bertinetti, Convivio
“The apples are sliced thin and al dente. There’s something healthy-tasting about this pie. It’s not very distinctive.”—Gershenson
“It’s not incredibly sweet. There’s an interesting burnt-caramel flavor. The crust seemed promising, but it’s a little bland.”—Rothman
“The bottom of the crust is soggy, but I like the caramelized walnuts.”—Gritzer
