Alley Pond Park
Live out your Amazing Race fantasy by whipping through Alley Pond Park's adventure course: Climb a 45-foot platform and glide down a zip line; then creep across a high wire, and fling yourself off a telephone pole. Urban Park Rangers will guide you through the course and quell any panic attacks. There are baseball fields, a minigolf course and BBQ areas here as well, if the thought of adrenaline coursing through your body gives you hives, and wetlands and tidal flats—the result of a 15,000-year-old glacier-formed moraine—make the park an excellent escape. The course is open on Sundays (May 2--Nov 21 10am--noon, 1:30--3:30pm) and is first-come, first-served for up to 40 people each two-hour session. Union Tpke at Winchester Blvd, Bayside, Queens (718-217-4685, nycgovparks.org/parks/alleypondpark)
