Photos: New York Dance Parade 2011
Mon May 23
Despite some rain, this year's Dance Parade went ahead in all its costumed, beglittered glory. In total, 74 styles were represented including roller-disco, zumba, marching band and liturgical dance. The parade even hosted a wedding ceremony: The two grooms exchanged personal vows atop a pink disco-music float.
Photo of the day: Floral headdress fashion show
Mon May 23
Today's photos were taken at VillageCare's Tulips & Pansies: The Headdress Affair, a benefit fashion show for VillageCare, an organization that provides health services for people living with HIV/AIDS. For the event, clothing and floral designers teamed up to create elaborate headpieces crafted entirely from living plants and flowers.

Last-minute plan: Buffy viewing party at the Way Station
Mon May 23
The folks at Prospect Heights bar The Way Station are no strangers to geeking out over Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So we weren't too surprised when we heard that the watering hole would start hosting a new shindig called Buffy Mondays. Stop by for tonight's first installment to catch screenings of the first two episodes of Joss Whedon's cult series. Then stick around to test your knowledge on the goings on in Sunnydale and tip back a few cocktails. If you're bummed you can't make it, don't worry: The Buffy love fest will return next week (8pm; free).
Photos: Time's Up Doggie Pedal Parade
Mon May 23
Aww, puppies! Cyclists took their (tiny) dogs to the streets on Sunday for Time's Up's Doggie Pedal Parade, which culminated in a party and adopt-a-thon in Tompkins Square Park. Some pups seemed entirely comfortable riding in baskets or custom-designed carts hooked to their owners' rides; others, such as the little guy above, seemed to disapprove of the whole affair. Daily poll: Outdoor smoking ban
Mon May 23
Back in February, only 32-percent of you supported the city's plan to put the kibosh on lighting up in parks, beaches and on boardwalks. Times flies because that controversial outdoor smoking ban, which seemed so far off at the time, went into effect today.
Yesterday's results: You picked Annie Hall as your favorite Woody Allen movie.
