The shoegaze sound gets a visual aid in a night of music-video debuts
Wed Mar 10
The quietly established Brooklyn venue Vaudeville Park has a lot going for it: cheap admission, the frequent availability of an open bar and the incorporation of incredibly diverse programming. There have been art shows, film festivals and fund-raisers, all of which were created (and probably attended) by members of the Bushwick/Williamsburg scene. This Saturday, March 13, should be no different, as the space hosts Screen Washed, a night of music-video debuts featuring solely neoshoegaze tunes (think bands who claim My Bloody Valentine as a major influence). Artists such as Panda Riot, Serena Maneesh, Screen Vinyl Image and The Sky Drops will have their videos screened, and live music will be provided by Dead Leaf Echo, along with others yet to be announced. Like most other parties here, this one features a low $6 cover, plus an open bar for those attendees who are 21 and up, which pretty much guarantees a good time.—Sarah Lerner

Relax here: Yoga for your face
Wed Mar 10
When it comes to yoga for the face, Annelise Hagen has written the book. Trained in classical theater and various movement techniques, Hagen decided to focus her practice on cheek, jaw and eye muscle workouts when she saw what regular yoga was capable of doing to the rest of her body. Once she had put together a cohesive sequence of face poses (and once loose-jowled practitioners realized her techniques offered a more sustainable alternative to things like Botox and cosmetic surgery), her reputation as face yoga expert grew and grew.
Hagen is a regular faculty member at New York Yoga (1629 York Ave at 86th St; 212-717-9642, newyorkyoga.com), known mainly for its rigorous series of hot yoga classes, and tonight she will teach an introductory Yoga Face Workshop (6:30--8pm, $25) there.
"This is her specialty," explains manager Rebecca Merritt. "She uses the face as a channel for the rest of the body." You can get a sense of some of the moves in this rather hilarious...
Need a cuppa? Get a taste of London at the Time Warner Center
Wed Mar 10
Here at TONY, we know there are few things better in life than a nice cup of tea and a sit-down when you need a break. However, we also know from our brethren at Time Out London that if you actually get the chance to hop the pond, the last thing you want to do is sit around—there's loads to do and see. To get a taste of what the Big Smoke has to to offer, head to the Time Warner Center and check out the Visit London pop-up store, open today until 5pm. There you can speak with reps about travel opportunities, including recommendations for catching the 2012 Olympics. And don't worry—you'll still get your cuppa and cakes (on the house, to boot!), as well as a free high-tea tutorial if you show up at noon. Bon voyage!
