We were there: The Black Party Expo

    Tue Mar 23

Photographs by Michael Alexander It's Tuesday, and we're guessing that the hangovers from Saturday's Black Party are just starting to wear off. But before all the revelry began, there was the first ever Black Party Expo, where vendors showed off everything from high-end lube and sex toys to last-minute leather getups for the big night. It may have been in the middle of the afternoon, but as with anything Black Party--related, things got frisky! Our photographer caught all of the action.

Last-minute plan: Review David Denby at the Graduate Center

    Tue Mar 23

David Denby, film critic for The New Yorker and author of the zeitgiesty Snark: A Polemic in Seven Fits, will be talking at the Writers' Institute at CUNY's Graduate Center tonight. Denby joins his voice to a series of events based around the fine craft that is journalism; "The Art of the Pitch" kicked the whole thing off back in February. Tonight, New York's crusader against snark will be sharing his views on "The Art of the Review": how to write—and then pitch—film reviews. Take good notes, and perhaps one day Denby's job—a life of getting paid to both watch movies and eat popcorn all day long—will be yours. "The Art of the Review," CUNY Graduate Center, Skylight Room, 365 Fifth Ave between 34th and 35th Sts. Tue 23 at 6:30pm.
