The marriage between rock music and comedy was strengthened yet again at the 12th annual Bonnaroo festival, which ran Jun 14–16 in Manchester, Tennessee. A sold-out crowd of 80,000 filled the 700-acre farm to see more than 170 bands including headliners Paul McCartney, Wu-Tang Clan, the Lumineers, Björk and Tom Petty. Even with so many marquee music acts, the 1500-seat Comedy Tent, an actual circus tent that’s showcased stand-up and variety shows for the last ten years, remained packed all weekend with unshowered and barely clothed kids—and not just because it’s air-conditioned. Twenty-plus comics performed, including Ed Helms, Thomas Lennon, Reggie Watts, Maria Bamford, Mike Birbiglia, Bob Saget, David Cross and Daniel Tosh. Here’s what we learned inside.

Lots of photos beyond the jump, plus comics telling us the craziest things they saw and nerding out over their favorite bands. And we share their best jokes.

Gethard needs to take more medication. Or maybe none. I found his stories boring. Your article didn't mention one of my favorites- Cristela Alonzo.
