This just in: Brooklyn Heights Blog reported this morning that the Palmetto Playground—a small space on Columbia Street, near Brooklyn Bridge Park—will be renamed Adam Yauch Park this Friday. We reached out to the Parks Department, who couldn't confirm anything at this time; but just in case, it might be good to detour through Brooklyn Heights on Friday morning.
After the Beastie Boy passed away last year, a campaign was launched to name Squibb Park after him—and then reports surfaced that fellow Beastie Ad-Rock was working with the Parks Department to christen State Street Park (where Yauch used to hang out) for the late rapper. Whatever ends up happening, MCA is one New Yorker who'd certainly deserve such an homage.
