Summer sure seems a long way off, but there is a ray of sunlight down the long corridor of winter darkness: BRIC Arts’ Celebrate Brooklyn! has announced that its opening show will be a gratis concert from Janelle Monáe. The five-foot-nothing R&B powerhouse will take the stage at Prospect Park Bandshell on June 4 at 8pm. We’d tell you to spread out on the grass (remember grass?), but odds are you’ll more likely be jumping and shouting along to can’t-keep-your-hips-still hits like “Dance Apocalyptic” and “Q.U.E.E.N.” off 2013’s critically acclaimed The Electric Lady.
Admission is free (with a $3 suggested donation), but be prepared to wait in line. And if you can’t wait until summer, VH1 recently announced that Monáe will be performing at Lehman College in the Bronx as part of its Super Bowl Blitz concert series.
