Get the cake and balloons ready—the Bell House just celebrated its fifth anniversary this week. In addition to hosting a plethora of cool events since it opened in 2008, the Brooklyn venue is something of a pioneer. When it was brand-new, its Gowanus location seemed like it was far removed from the rest of the city's (and even Brooklyn's) nightlife; since then, the neighborhood has grown immensely (for better or worse—what's up, Whole Foods?), and the Bell House was at the forefront of that change.
But enough of that: The venue is celebrating by giving back to the folks who've come out to shows in the past five years. One of its biggest upcoming events is the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival (which launched at the Bell House in 2011), and you have a chance to win tickets to one of the fest's sold-out events. Funny folks Kristen Schaal and Kurt Braunohler are back in town to do a very special edition of their much-missed weekly stand-up show, Hot Tub, on September 28, and you can win a pair of tickets. Head to the Bell House's Facebook page for more details.
And here's to many more years of excellent comedy shows, intimate live performances and general good times in Gowanus.
