Concept renderings of Governors Island
Someday you may be able to take advantage of new amenities on Governors Island, lounging in the shaded hammocks of Hammock Grove, while other folks relax in…an outdoor pool? Wait, what?
Since the City Council voted to change the waterside landmark's zoning, the Trust for Governors Island has received for-profit proposals for the reusable land. While nothing is confirmed, the organization released concept renderings of for-profit developments on the isle this week at Community Board 1 (they're originally from a presentation in June).

Scroll through the renderings above to see some of the general concept ideas, including a luxury hotel complete with a spa and outdoor pool. If you're fearing even more crowds descending on the space, we wouldn't blame you, but don't worry just yet—the development of the 1 million square feet of historic space is still years away.
