How long have you lived here?
I’ve lived in Washington Heights for 47 years. I gave my original apartment to my daughter—she needed it more than me, because she has three daughters to care for.
Where are you originally from?
The Dominican Republic. I go back and visit my country every year as soon as the cold weather in New York becomes unbearable. I own a small, humble home in the countryside there.
What are you up to today?
I’m on my way to pay respect to the Almighty. Without Him, I don’t think I would’ve had the strength to be where I am now. I may be old, but I’m healthy, and that’s all I can ask for.
