As we’re sure you’re well aware, it’s been a great summer for free concerts. (And continues to be: The 4Knots Music Festival at South Street Seaport—packed with sets by of-the-moment rockers like Kurt Vile, the Men and the Babies, among others—is this weekend, people!)
A decidedly less current (but still fun!) group of outfits hits another NYC waterfront destination, Coney Island, this season for the 35th annual run of Seaside Summer Concerts. This year’s festivities kick off with Midwest rock staple Cheap Trick (July 12), and boast soul survivor Smokey Robinson (July 25), ‘80s hit makers Huey Lewis and the News (Aug 15), the classic rockage of Chicago (Aug 21) and more.
All shows start at 7:30pm at the intersection of West 21st Street and Surf Avenue. Here’s the full schedule:
July 12: Cheap Trick
July 18: Band TBD
July 25: Smokey Robinson
Aug 1: The Go-Go’s, the Tom Tom Club
Aug 15: Huey Lewis and the News
Aug 21: Chicago
