After the wave of violent crimes early this week in Greenpoint, residents of the North Brooklyn 'hood are understandable feeling a bit freaked out. (Weirdly enough, a recent study shows that people perceive Greenpoint to be one of the least safe areas in Brooklyn, based on images taken from Google Maps.)
Greenpointers has kindly put together a list of street safety tips; you should check that out here, no matter where you live. The local rag also announced a Meeting on Crime on Monday, August 19. The town-hall gathering will be held at Church of the Ascension (127 Kent St between Franklin St and Manhattan Ave) at 6:30pm, and Neighborhood Watch and local cops will be on hand to discuss the recent spike in crime in the neighborhood. Stay safe, everyone.
