Prepare to open those pocketbooks, folks: WFMU's annual fund-raising marathon begins today and goes on until March 17. Huzzah! The Jersey City indie station took quite a beating from Hurricane Sandy, and is on the road to recovery. However, because it's a totally independent operation, listener donations matter now more than ever—and don't you want to help support one of the city's vital indie enterprises? We thought so. Visit WFMU's Marathon webpage to find out how to donate, and what sorts of fun prize packs you can get with your contribution (including special premiums crafted by WFMU DJs).
And don't forget to tune in to the station this week for special marathon-only programming: Tom Scharpling, pictured above, usually invites pretty fantastic guests to his #TomThon editions of The Best Show, so tune in tomorrow and on Tuesday, March 12, from 9pm–midnight, to hear what he's got planned. And Yo La Tengo will play their annual covers extravaganza (all the way from Berlin!) on Thursday, March 14 from 9am–noon.
Check out the video below, from the 2012 marathon, to get an idea of what you might hear during their set.
