Monopoly pieces
Proving once and for all that cats are having some kind of weird cultural moment, Hasbro announced today that the winner of its crowd-sourced vote for a new Monopoly piece will be a feline, pictured above in the lower left corner. It will replace the iron, a longtime fixture of the game, but apparently one that people don't particularly care for (it received the least votes of all the current pieces; the Scottie dog received the most, with 29 percent).
The cat won't be introduced right away, so die-hard iron fans still have time to get a version of the game with all the classic tokens. Meanwhile, if you want to be kind of bummed out (assuming this is the sort of thing you get bummed out by), Hasbro posted a video on its Facebook page showing a sad iron getting locked in a vault for all eternity. Aww.
