Justice Sonia Sotomayor to lead the Times Square ball drop on New Year's Eve
The Supreme Court justice and Bronx native will lead the 60-second countdown to the biggest moment of the night
Mon Dec 30 2013
New Year's Eve in Times Square always attracts boldfaced names: the usual gaggle of TV hosts (Ryan Seacrest, Anderson Cooper et al.) and musicians (this year, Miley Cyrus, Melissa Etheridge and Icona Pop will perform during the festivities). But we're far more excited by the news that Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor has been chosen to lead the end-of-night countdown to the ball drop. The Bronx native, who was appointed to the nation's highest court in 2009, will kick things off by pressing a ceremonial button, beginning the 60-second countdown to midnight. Fun!

And don't forget: Today is the last day you can hop on a Citi Bike to help power the New Year's Eve ball. Sure, why not.
