Astoria Park Track
Lit by street-lamp-style lights until 11pm, this 400-meter, all-weather loop provides a striking view of the Manhattan skyline, and there's outdoor gym equipment nearby for circuit training and calisthenics. Astoria Park South at 18th St, Astoria, Queens (nycgovparks.org/parks/astoriapark/facilities/runningtracks)

Brooklyn Bridge
With most of the daytime walker-gawkers gone, the 1.13-mile-long bridge is empty at night, save a few photogs. Avoid going after 11pm even though the lights stay on for another hour—that's when the sketchballs come out. From Brooklyn: Adams St, or the staircase on Prospect St between Cadman Plaza East and West. From Manhattan: South end of Centre St, or through the south staircase of the Brooklyn Bridge--City Hall subway station.

Chelsea Waterside Basketball Court
Anyone can join in on the pickup games, which often last until 1am, when the court closes. Open daily, year-round. W 23rd St at Eleventh Ave (212-627-2121, hudsonriverpark.org/explore/basketballcw.html)

Hudson River Park Basketball Court (Pier 34)
This recently redone regulation court is New York's gift to pickup players. Since it's open daily until 12:30am, the action gets going at sunset, year-round. West St at Canal St (212-627-2121, hudsonriverpark.org)

Hudson River Park Bike Path
Once the daytime Rollerbladers clear out, this picturesque five-mile stretch along the Hudson River offers a serene riding experience. Stick to the well-lit path, which is open 24 hours a day, year-round—park enforcement patrol this area throughout the night. Multiple access points from Battery Park City to 59th St, at the West Side Hwy (212-627-2121, hudsonriverpark.org)

Hudson River Park Tennis Courts (Pier 40)
Often mobbed during the day, the three Laykold-surface courts near Pier 40 tend to clear up beneath the cloak of night. They're open daily until 12:30am through December 22, when they close for the winter. Your playtime is limited to one hour. West St between Canal and W Houston Sts (212-627-2121, hudsonriverpark.org)

McCarren Park Handball Courts
Okay, so maybe handball hasn't been your usual workout of choice. But when you see the 12 courts (floodlit till 11pm), you might reconsider. Union Ave at Driggs Ave, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (nycgovparks.org/parks/mccarrenpark/facilities/handball)

McCarren Park  Track
Don't be surprised to see a diverse mix of Hasids and hipsters running laps beneath the 400-meter rubber track's blindingly bright lights, which stay on till 11pm. McCarren Park, enter at Lorimer St at Driggs Ave, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (nycgovparks.org/parks/mccarrenpark/)

Riverbank State Park Tennis Courts
The four lighted Laykold-surface courts stay open until 11pm year-round. Dress warmly for when the wind whips off of the Hudson. Enter at 145th St and Riverside Dr (212-694-3600, nysparks.state.ny.us/parks/93/details.aspx)
