Nothing beats the marriage of drinking and helping out a cool public-works project, and now the good folks trying to get the Lower East Side's Lowline park off the ground are doing just that. They've teamed up with a few bars in the neighborhood to create Absolut Lowline cocktails, specialty drinks whipped up with the famed Swedish vodka that benefit the park with their sales.
If you stop by LES spots 2nd Floor on Clinton, Donnybrook or Hotel on Rivington, you can have a drinkl and donate to the worthy cause. All cocktails are unique to the bar: 2nd Floor on Clinton's is made with beet juice, Velvet Falernum, verjuice and lemon juice; Donnybrook's contains fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice, muddled basil and simple syrup; and Hotel on Rivington's is made with sriracha, triple sec, grapefruit juice and lemon juice, among other ingredients.
One dollar from every cocktail goes toward financing the park, which has been the subject of massive fund-raising efforts by supporters over the past couple of years. The team behind the cocktail project say they hope to get more local bars and restaurants involved in the initiative.
