After coming under fire for a lack of diversity among its recently hired performers, Saturday Night Live has announced that NYC comedian Sasheer Zamata will join the cast. She'll make her debut on January 18, with Drake appearing as host and musical guest. The sketch-comedy show launched a midseason search and held auditions in December to rectify its diversity problem—there hasn't been an African-American woman on the show in over six years, after Maya Rudolph took her final bow.
The 27-year-old actor is from Indianapolis and moved to NYC in 2009. She's an Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre alum, and has appeared in Inside Amy Schumer, Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell and Pursuit of Sexiness.
