Performing arts takes myriad forms, even on the subway. Some of the bizarre (or downright awful) acts found on trains can leave New Yorkers clawing for the nearest exit, but the good ones can stop even the most jaded city dweller in his or her tracks.
While many aren't officially MTA-sanctioned, the transit organization auditions and authorizes select live-music groups through its Music Under New York program. This year, 70 hopefuls were whittled down to 25 impressive selections. You can find full bios and locations on the MTA site, but here's a preview of our favorites.
