“I adore walking around City College of New York (160 Convent Ave at 138th St; ccny.cuny.edu). Those buildings are just so beautiful! I especially love the gargoyles. I think a lot of animated films have taken some [inspiration] from there. I go for the silence, too, because there is just so much noise here in the city.”

  3. “What I love most in New York is when you can find a place where you go in and everybody knows you. Battery Gardens (Battery Park, 17 State St at New York Harbor; batterygardens.com) is that place for me. I really love their Marseille wine; I can have it for lunch. Liquid lunch plus the view—really, you don’t need much else.”

“I grew up in the woods in Sweden, so I need trees around me as often as possible. That’s why I go to the northern part of Central Park (110th St between Fifth and Eighth Aves, centralparknyc.org). I go all the way into the woodsy, hilly stuff, where there aren’t too many people.”

“I live up in Harlem, but I love going down to the Fairway (480–500 Van Brunt St at Hudson River, Red Hook, Brooklyn; 718-254-0923, fairwaymarket.com) in Red Hook. I have to schlep but the view is so great and the store itself is amazing. It reminds me of Chelsea Market and the High Line in terms of design—I love what they do with these spaces here in the city.”
