Zamora's Sideshow Featuring the Torture King

For some of us, a hangnail or a stubbed toe could be considered torture. That’s what comes of living in a soft, decadent society of cushiony (maybe a word?) couches and large TVs. For some, like sideshow legend Zamora the Torture King, this collective aversion to pain is nothing but a standing challenge to push their body’s threshold into the realm of the medieval. This past weekend, “The Man Who Feels No Pain” teamed with Play Dead cowriter and notorious lightbulb swallower Todd Robbins to test nail beds and other excruciating devices, commemorating the opening of Coney Island USA's Shooting Gallery Arts Annex. Due to the event’s graphic nature, no attendees under 18 were admitted without parental consent. (On a personal note, as a man who nearly faints when people pretend to detach their thumbs, I opted to sit this one out.)
