Yesterday, Gothamist (via WNYC) ran a story about an East Villager who rented out his room though the site Airbnb…and whose landlord was then issued fines of up to $30,000 from the city for doing so. Considering that the bed-hopping service seems increasingly popular for young folks visiting NYC, the whole ordeal really threw us for a loop. (We’ve talked to a few friends who’ve used the service in the past few weeks alone—and just sort of assumed this practice was legit. Naive, we know.)
